Colonel H. C. B. Rogers traces the course of the English Civil Wars from the outbreak of hostilities in 1642 to the final campaigns of 1651. With a foreword by distinguished historian Sir Arthur Bryant, the book combines accounts of the principal battles with studies of the commanders, armies, weapons and tactics employed by the Royalist and Parliamentarian forces.

The narrative covers engagements including Edgehill, Marston Moor, Naseby, Preston, Dunbar and Worcester, together with the Scottish campaigns and the rise of Cromwell’s New Model Army.

Illustrated with 22 maps, 34 black-and-white photographs and 11 pages of reproduced contemporary documents, with illustrated endpapers and an index.
