In general histories and media presentations of warfare there is often stated a total number of troops, perhaps the number of divisions or brigades. A lay reader would not realise that a force of 10,000 men might only have 2000 bayonets at the sharp end of combat. In reality armies have to be organised with intricate precision, just to get troops fed and watered, even before combat takes place, and each nation had their own idea of how that should look.
This series takes a look at the varied organisations of the combat units of World War Two, with the intention to cover all combatants and some that might have been invaded. By using a consistent methodology it is easy to compare formations down to platoon level of a given army or nation, and see the tanks, guns and heavy weapons available to those formations.
Primarily aimed at wargamers, the series of is also of use to historians and researches looking to a snapshot of a given unit at a particular moment in time.
