Second Hand Books - Terms & Conditions

1. Condition of Books

All books listed for sale are second-hand and graded using the following categories:

Ultra Rare
Signed
As New / Mint
Fine / Like New
Very Good
Good
Acceptable / Fair
Heavy Signs of Use
Very Poor Condition

We assess and grade all second-hand books using an internal condition guide to ensure consistency and accuracy across our listings. Where applicable, dust jackets are assessed separately from the book itself and any notable differences in condition will be clearly stated.

Unless otherwise specified, books are expected to be complete and readable, with any significant defects or issues described in the listing.

Product images are provided for reference only. While the book you receive will match the stated condition and grading, variations in cover artwork, publisher editions, printings, and dust jackets may occur.

Disclaimer: We make every effort to ensure our listings are accurate; however, occasional errors may occur. If you believe any information is incorrect, please contact us and we will correct it as quickly as possible.

2. Pricing and Best Offer

Discounts and Promotions
Unless expressly stated otherwise, sales, promotional discounts, voucher codes, and author discounts do not apply to second-hand books.

All prices are listed in GBP (£) and include VAT where applicable. Some listings may feature a “Best Offer” option.

  • You may submit an offer below the listed price using the “Best Offer” feature.
  • We reserve the right to accept, reject, or counter any offer at our discretion.
  • Once accepted, offers become binding and payment must be made promptly.

3. Rare, Collectable, and High-Value Orders

Due to the value or rarity of certain books, additional conditions apply:

We ask you to contact us before placing an order so we can provide a shipping quotation tailored to your location.
For these orders, we may only use reliable and insured carrier services to ensure safe delivery.
Insurance and enhanced liability cover will be arranged as part of the shipping quotation.
Please be aware that shipping costs for rare or high-value items may be higher than standard delivery charges.

International buyers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or import charges.

  • Other methods as shown at checkout

We reserve the right to cancel orders if a listing error or pricing issue is identified.

5. Shipping

We aim to dispatch all orders within [2–8 working days].

International buyers are responsible for any customs duties, taxes, or import charges.

6. Returns and Refunds

Online Purchases
In accordance with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, customers have the right to cancel an order within 14 calendar days of receipt, for any reason.
Notification of cancellation must be provided within this period. Customers then have an additional 14 calendar days to return the goods.

All items must be returned in the condition in which they were received. Upon receipt of the returned goods, a full refund will be issued, including the basic delivery cost. Please note that the cost of return postage remains the responsibility of the customer, unless the item is deemed faulty or misdescribed.

Once an order has been dispatched, it is no longer possible to cancel the order.

Faulty or Misdescribed Items
If an item is received damaged, faulty, or not as described, customers must notify us within 14 calendar days of delivery. Following review, we will offer either a partial refund or a full refund, depending on the nature of the issue.

Returns Procedure
Notification: To exercise your right to cancel or to report a faulty/misdescribed item, you must notify us in writing within the applicable time period.
Return Authorisation: Once your request has been received, we will confirm the return instructions, including the return address.
Packaging: Goods must be securely packaged to prevent damage during transit. We recommend re-using the original packaging where possible.
Proof of Postage: Customers are strongly advised to obtain proof of postage when returning items. We cannot accept liability for goods lost or damaged in transit.
Refunds: Refunds will be processed within 14 days of receipt of the returned goods, using the original method of payment.

7. Exclusions

The following are non-returnable unless faulty:

  • Personalised or signed books
  • Books clearly marked “Reading Copy Only”
  • Sealed media (if opened)

8. Basket Reservations and Availability

  • Adding a book to your basket does not guarantee its purchase.
  • When a second-hand book is added to your basket, it will be reserved for a limited period of time to allow you to complete your payment.
  • If the purchase is not completed within this timeframe, the book will be made available again and may be purchased by another customer.

9. Amendments

We reserve the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. Continued use of the website or services after changes indicates your agreement to the revised terms.
