Since his re-election in 2024, President Donald Trump has made claims to annex both Canada and Greenland, straining relations with both Canadian and Danish governments. However, up until 2022 Denmark and Canada had their own dispute that was resolved peacefully and amicably, an example of how mature and responsible governments should handle conflict.

The Whisky War Volume 2 is the second in a series that will explain how Canada, Denmark and the United States have been cooperating in defence matters since the Second World War and how this cooperation also secured the defence of North America during the Cold War.

The Cold War that followed the Second World War made both Greenland and the Canadian Arctic essential for the protection of North America from possible Soviet air attacks by the installation of early warning radar networks and basing of interceptors on forward bases. At the same time, the US built Thule AFB in Northern Greenland for the staging of bombers and reconnaissance aircraft for operations over the USSR.
