East Prussia was the first region of the Reich to which Soviet troops arrived. After an initial failure, they launched an offensive in early 1945 that would lead to the conquest of the entire region. In a short time only its capital Königsberg and some other pockets were still German.

The borders of the until recently all-powerful Third Reich began to be threatened in mid-1944 after the triumph of two Allied operations: "Overlord" on the coast of Normandy and "Bagration" on the Eastern Front. The Red Army, massively reinforced, was already advancing to harass the "German fascist beast" in its own lair.

Adolf Hitler and the German General Staff were aware that sooner or later enemy forces would knock on the doors of the Reich, and this happened on the Eastern Front in October of that year. In Assault on East Prussia 1944-45 we will know the scene of the first battles in which the German defenders had to face the "Soviet roller" on Reich territory. Maintaining the integrity of this territory then became a vital priority for the Third Reich and the fighting fought in East Prussia, against an enemy thirsty for revenge, was undoubtedly epic. This book offers a detailed account of the East Prussian campaign as well as the siege of its capital Königsberg, accompanied by a good number of photographs, illustrations and maps, which allow the reader to know in depth one of the final episodes of the WW2, whose important consequences survive to this day.
