A substantial 139-page, clothbound typescript account by William Raws, formerly a rifleman in the 1/6th (Rifle) Battalion, The King’s (Liverpool Regiment). Entitled A Diary of the Events in My Life in the Army, it covers 1 September 1914 to 11 March 1916, including his training, active service and time in hospital.

In a preface dated 15 August 1916, Raws explains that he revised an earlier account and had a few copies made. The volume includes a handwritten presentation leaf addressed to “Ben” and a mounted photograph of a soldier.

Raws served with the Liverpool Rifles during their early Western Front campaign. A question raised in the House of Commons on 28 June 1916 identified him as having lost his right leg at Hill 60 and cited 11 March 1916 as his discharge date—the final date on the typescript’s title page. A personal record of Territorial Force service, wounding and its aftermath.
