Condition
Good in good dust jacket. The original pictorial dust jacket has rubbing and surface wear, with small chips, nicks and creasing around the edges, corners and spine ends. The purple rear panel is lightly marked and rubbed. The boards and binding appear sound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean, but there are pencil marginal notes, brackets, underlining and brief handwritten annotations on a number of pages, including those visible around pages 30 and 50. Please refer to the photographs for further details.

In this concise and thought-provoking study, distinguished military historian and strategist B. H. Liddell Hart examines why nations, governments and individuals repeatedly fail to apply the lessons of the past. Covering history and truth, government and freedom, and war and peace, Hart considers the influence of prejudice, propaganda and incomplete evidence upon historical understanding. He also explores recurring errors in political and military decision-making and argues for the importance of independent thought and the practical study of history. This is the revised and expanded 1972 edition of a work first published in 1944.
