Good condition hardback with original dust jacket. The jacket shows minor shelf wear and a small chip/tear to the top edge of the rear panel. The red cloth boards are clean with bright gilt lettering on the spine. Internally, the binding is firm, but there are neat ink marginalia and annotations on several pages (as shown in photos). The page edges show light age-toning.

A classic and highly influential study by Australian historian Geoffrey Blainey that examines the causes of international wars since 1700. Blainey challenges traditional theories of conflict, arguing that war and peace are alternating phases of the same relationship between nations. By analyzing over 200 years of conflict, he provides a rational and evidence-based guide to understanding why nations choose to fight and how peace is eventually restored.
