A scholarly study of Major-General J. F. C. Fuller, the influential British soldier, military theorist and early advocate of mechanised and armoured warfare. Brian Holden Reid traces the development of Fuller’s thought from his formative experiences and service in South Africa and India through the First World War, the interwar debate over mechanisation, his controversial politics and his commentary on the Second World War.
An important signed association copy from the personal library of Professor Brian Bond, acquired with Bond’s book collection directly from his family. Brian Holden Reid has signed the title page and inscribed the front free endpaper to Bond, describing the volume as “a small token of my affection and admiration” and acknowledging Bond’s long-standing scholarly example. The presentation inscription is signed “Brian” and dated 28.ii.88.
Professor Brian Bond was one of Britain’s foremost military historians and a highly influential figure in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. The direct personal and scholarly connection between author and recipient makes this copy considerably more desirable than an ordinarily signed example.
First UK edition, published by Macmillan Press in association with King’s College London in 1987. Part of the Studies in Military and Strategic History series. Includes two maps, extensive notes and references, a bibliography and index.
