A candid and controversial memoir by Brigadier-General F. P. Crozier, one of the most outspoken British commanders of the First World War. In this powerful work Crozier reflects on his wartime experiences, military leadership, the human cost of conflict, and the political and social consequences of modern warfare.
Drawing on his service on the Western Front and his later experiences in post-war Europe, Crozier offers a fiercely critical examination of military command, discipline, nationalism and the institutions that, in his view, contributed to the slaughter of the Great War. The chapters range from battlefield experiences and the realities of combat to broader reflections on international politics, militarism and the prospects for future peace.
Written with unusual frankness for its time, The Men I Killed remains an important and thought-provoking first-hand account from a senior British officer whose views frequently challenged military orthodoxy. An increasingly uncommon first edition and a significant contribution to First World War memoir literature.
