A scarce First World War novel by Captain R. W. Campbell, first published in 1915. Written with humour and authenticity, Private Spud Tamson follows the adventures of its spirited Scottish protagonist from enlistment through military training and the opening months of the Great War.
Combining military satire with barrack-room humour, the novel offers an engaging portrait of army life before and during mobilisation. Campbell, himself a serving officer, captures the personalities, routines and camaraderie of the British Army with wit while reflecting the changing atmosphere as Britain enters the conflict.
An increasingly uncommon wartime publication and an attractive addition to collections of First World War fiction and military history.
