The autobiography of Major-General J. F. C. Fuller, one of the most influential military thinkers of the twentieth century and a pioneering advocate of armoured warfare. In this substantial memoir Fuller recounts his military career from his early service through the First World War, where he became closely associated with the development and employment of tanks, and into the controversial political and military debates of the inter-war years.
The work provides first-hand observations on tank warfare, military reform, strategy, senior commanders and the evolution of modern mechanised warfare. Illustrated with photographic plates and folding campaign maps covering Arras, Passchendaele, Cambrai, Hamel and Amiens, the volume remains an important primary source for students of military history and armoured warfare.
This copy is particularly notable for its presentation inscription signed by Fuller, adding significant collector interest. A desirable first edition by one of Britain's most important military theorists.
