Condition
Good condition. Original black cloth boards show general handling and shelf wear, with some rubbing and surface marking, including noticeable blotching to the rear board. No dust jacket. Internally sound overall, with the text, plates and maps remaining clear and usable, though there is a split at the front inner hinge and an old newspaper review cutting pasted to the front endpaper. A solid original reading and reference copy.

A classic study of German defensive tactics on the Western Front during the First World War. In If Germany Attacks, Captain G. C. Wynne examines the development of the German “battle in depth” system between 1915 and 1917, tracing how experience at Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Ridge, Festubert, Loos, the Somme, Arras, Vimy and Flanders shaped defensive doctrine. The work became an influential text in British military thinking and remains one of the best-known contemporary analyses of trench warfare and tactical adaptation.
This original 1940 Faber edition contains maps, plans, portraits and diagrammatic sketches, and will appeal to readers interested in the Western Front, British military thought, German tactics and the evolution of modern warfare. A desirable original issue of an important First World War study, more collectible than the later modern reprints.
