In this scholarly reassessment, renowned military historian Robin Prior examines Winston Churchill's monumental The World Crisis, evaluating it both as a historical narrative and as a source for understanding the First World War. Rather than accepting Churchill's account at face value, Prior subjects it to detailed analysis, comparing it with archival evidence and modern scholarship. The book explores major episodes including the Dardanelles campaign, Jutland, the Somme, submarine warfare, tank development and Churchill's influence on British grand strategy. An important study of both Churchill as historian and the writing of military history.
