Is War Now Impossible? by I. S. Bloch examines warfare through its technical, economic and political consequences. An abridgement of The War of the Future, it considers how developments in weapons, military organisation and national economies could shape future conflicts.
The book is divided into two main sections. “Military and Naval Developments” covers warfare on land, campaign planning, naval warfare, the costs of conflict and care of the wounded. “Economic Difficulties in Time of War” examines Russia, Britain, Germany and France, alongside the effects of war on essential supplies, probable losses and militarism.
The contents include “Conversations with the Author” by W. T. Stead and Bloch’s preface. The accompanying lists identify maps, plans and diagrams addressing military operations, expenditure, population, trade, food supplies and weapons.
This English-language Gregg Revivals hardback was published in association with the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. A useful work for readers interested in military thought and the relationship between warfare, economics and society.
