Condition
Good condition for its age. The original cloth boards remain intact with some rubbing and light marking. The spine and binding remain firm. Things Seen by G. W. Steevens is a collection of essays and reflections by one of the most prominent British journalists of the late nineteenth century. Steevens gained fame as a war correspondent and commentator, writing vividly on politics, culture and international affairs during a period of rapid change in Europe and the wider world.
The essays collected in this volume address a wide range of subjects, including literature, journalism, public life and contemporary political controversies such as the Dreyfus Affair. Written in Steevens’ lively and incisive style, the book provides insight into the intellectual and cultural debates of the late Victorian era.
The volume includes a portrait frontispiece of the author and offers an engaging example of journalistic and literary commentary from one of the most widely read writers of his time.
