A detailed contemporary history of Lumsden's Horse, one of the most famous volunteer units raised in India for service during the Second Boer War. Formed under the leadership of Colonel D. M. Lumsden, the corps was composed largely of British expatriates and civilians from across India who volunteered for active service in South Africa during the conflict of 1899–1902.

The book traces the regiment's formation, training, voyage from India, campaigning in South Africa, participation in the advance to Bloemfontein and Pretoria, scouting operations, actions against Boer commandos and eventual return home. Richly illustrated with portraits, photographs and battlefield scenes, it serves as both a regimental history and an important primary source for the war.

A significant and increasingly scarce Boer War regimental history, highly regarded by collectors of South African campaign material and military history.
