Condition
Good condition considering age. The original dark-green cloth boards show general rubbing and surface marking, with light wear and bumping to the corners and spine ends. The gilt regimental badge and spine lettering remain clear. The binding appears sound. The page edges are noticeably age-toned and foxed, with scattered foxing to the preliminary pages, margins and some plates. The original rear map pocket is heavily browned and foxed and bears faint pencil notation. The six folding maps sre present and show age toning and normal fold wear. No extensive inscriptions, underlining or textual annotations were observed in the pages examined. No dust jacket is present. Please refer to the supplied photographs for the book’s exact condition.

The second volume of the official regimental history of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, covering the period from 1803 to 1830. Lieutenant-Colonel Lewis Butler traces the development of the rifle and the regiment’s distinctive green uniform, followed by its extensive service during the Napoleonic Wars.
The volume provides detailed accounts of the regiment’s involvement in the Peninsular War, including the campaigns and battles of Vimeiro, Corunna, Talavera and other important actions, together with its service during the War of 1812 and the years immediately following the Napoleonic conflict. The narrative is supplemented by biographical material, portrait plates and numerous campaign maps.
This is the scarce 1923 first edition in the original gilt-decorated green cloth, complete with the folding maps housed in the rear pocket.
