David Mitchell’s comprehensive biography of Christabel Pankhurst, one of the principal leaders and strategists of the British women’s suffrage movement.
The daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst and a driving force behind the Women’s Social and Political Union, Christabel played a central role in directing the militant campaign for votes for women. Mitchell follows her life from her early political activism through the escalating suffrage campaign, imprisonment, exile and the interruption of the movement by the First World War.
The book also examines her wartime politics, religious conversion, advocacy of Second Adventism and later life in the United States. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs, portraits and reproductions of contemporary documents.
