Condition
Good condition. Original brown cloth boards with gilt titles to the front board and spine. The boards remain bright and clean with only light general shelf wear, minor rubbing to the extremities and some fraying to the head of the spine. The binding is firm and sound.
Internally, the pages are generally clean with only light age toning and occasional spotting. There are former library stamps and annotations to the front endpapers, but these do not affect the text. Page edges remain clean and the book retains its original character. Overall, a well-preserved example of this 1901 Boer War memoir.

Count Adalbert Sternberg’s firsthand account of his experiences during the Second Boer War, translated from the original German and accompanied by an extensive introduction by Lieutenant-Colonel G. F. R. Henderson.
Published in 1901, the book records Sternberg’s observations of the campaign, battlefield tactics and the contrasting methods of the British and Boer forces. An uncommon contemporary account and a useful primary source for collectors and researchers of the Anglo-Boer War. This copy is the second impression issued in the same year as the first edition. Bibliographical records confirm the original edition comprised 268 pages in brown cloth with uncut edges.
