An important firsthand account of one of the most famous episodes of the Second Boer War. Written by Captain Aylmer Haldane, D.S.O., this work recounts his imprisonment in Pretoria following the fall of British forces and his dramatic escape from Boer captivity.
The narrative follows Haldane's capture, life inside the Staats Model School prison, the meticulous planning of the escape, the hazardous journey across the Transvaal, and eventual return to British lines. Unlike Winston Churchill's better-known account, Haldane provides a detailed military perspective on the organisation and execution of the escape.
Illustrated throughout with photographic plates, detailed plans of the Pretoria prison, route maps and other contemporary illustrations, this Second Enlarged Edition remains one of the classic Boer War memoirs and an increasingly collectible title.
