A contemporary account of the Second Boer War focusing on the religious, charitable and welfare work undertaken among British troops serving in South Africa. Written by Rev. W. E. Sellers and published during the conflict itself in 1900, the work follows soldiers from their training at Aldershot through deployment and active service on the South African veldt.

The volume examines the activities of military chaplains, Christian workers, hospitals, soldiers' homes and welfare organisations supporting British servicemen during the campaign. Richly illustrated with photographic plates and period artwork, it provides a fascinating insight into the social and humanitarian dimensions of the Boer War, documenting the experiences of both soldiers and those working to support them.

An uncommon contemporary Boer War title offering valuable primary-period perspectives on military life, morale, religion and welfare during one of Britain's most significant imperial conflicts.
