A scarce limited edition study of the life and work of Harry Payne (1858–1927), one of Britain's best-known military artists and illustrators.
Written by Michael Cane and published in 1977 in a strictly limited edition of only 400 numbered copies, this example is No. 136. The book chronicles Payne's career from his early military commissions through his famous illustrations of Victorian and Edwardian soldiers, cavalry regiments and military uniforms.
Beautifully illustrated throughout, it includes reproductions of Payne's artwork, photographs, postcards, cigarette cards and contemporary military ephemera, together with appendices covering military postcards, toy books, cigarette cards, prints and other aspects of his published work.
An excellent reference work for collectors of military art, British Army uniforms, Victorian military history and Harry Payne's illustrations.
