Black and White Budget (Volumes I & II) : Transvaal Special

Condition

Good near very good condition. Original publisher's decorative cloth binding with gilt titles. General rubbing and marks to the boards with some wear to the spine ends and corners. A substantial contemporary bound edition of Black and White Budget: Transvaal Special, containing Volumes I & II of the celebrated illustrated weekly covering the Second Boer War.

Published in 1900, this impressive volume brings together the wartime issues that documented the conflict as it unfolded. Richly illustrated with hundreds of photographs, portraits, battlefield scenes and reports from correspondents, it provides a remarkable contemporary record of the war in South Africa.

Coverage includes leading military figures such as Lord Roberts, Sir Redvers Buller, Paul Kruger, Hector MacDonald and numerous British officers, alongside reports from the campaigns at Ladysmith, Colenso, Modder River, Spion Kop and the advance towards Pretoria. The volume remains an important primary source for historians, collectors and enthusiasts of the Boer War.

An increasingly scarce publisher's bound edition and an excellent reference work for military history collections.
