Condition
Fair to good condition. Original purple cloth boards with heavy fading, rubbing and edge wear. The spine is worn with fraying and loss to the head and foot, and the front hinge is cracked, exposing the binding cloth. Internal hinges are weak but the text block remains complete. Endpapers show significant offsetting, foxing and staining, several small holes confined to the endpapers. Pages are generally clean with occasional foxing, age toning and light marks. A sound reading and reference copy of this uncommon Boer War diary.

An engaging first-hand memoir of service during the Second Boer War, written by Murray Cosby Jackson and published in 1913. Based on the author's wartime diary, the book follows his experiences in South Africa from 1899 to 1901, covering campaigning around Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Harrismith, Heilbron, Bothaville and service with remounts.
Illustrated throughout with the author's own humorous sketches and drawings, the narrative provides an unusually personal and often light-hearted account of campaigning, camp life, harsh weather, horses and the daily realities faced by British soldiers during the conflict.
An increasingly sought-after Boer War memoir combining eyewitness history with original illustrations.
