Published to accompany the 2012 exhibition at the Museum im Schloss Lützen, this substantial and extensively illustrated volume examines Albrecht von Wallenstein, his military and political career, and the Battle of Lützen in 1632. Essays by German, Czech and Swedish scholars cover Wallenstein’s rise and fall, his family and estates, his campaigns and battles, his relationship with Gustavus Adolphus, contemporary representations and the subsequent historical memory of both Wallenstein and Lützen. The volume also considers battlefield archaeology and the material evidence associated with the campaign. Illustrated with 335 predominantly colour photographs, portraits, paintings, maps, manuscripts and archaeological objects. German text.
