Printed from the manuscript compiled and illustrated by George Fox, this substantial large-format history examines the three sieges of Pontefract Castle during the English Civil War. The chapters cover preparations for a siege, the castle’s garrison and the first, second and third sieges, followed by indexes of people and places.
The volume is extensively illustrated with manuscript facsimiles, portraits, heraldic devices, architectural views and historical depictions of Pontefract Castle. It includes both black-and-white and colour plates, together with a folded illustration. Published by The Old Hall Press in 1987, this was a short-run facsimile edition of Fox’s illustrated manuscript, now held at Pontefract Library.
