A detailed regional study of the English Civil War in south-west Wales, focusing on military and political events in Pembrokeshire and the surrounding border regions between 1642 and 1649. First published in 1936, this substantial work traces the shifting fortunes of Royalist and Parliamentary forces across the county, covering the sieges, campaigns, local politics and personalities that shaped the conflict in one of the most strategically important areas of Wales.
Drawing extensively on contemporary manuscripts, official records and local sources, Green reconstructs the complex military history of the region, including the actions at Pembroke, Tenby, Haverfordwest and other key strongholds. The volume contains numerous folding maps and plans illustrating troop movements, fortifications and campaign areas, making it a valuable reference for both Civil War scholars and local historians.
Particularly notable for its depth of research and detailed treatment of the Second Civil War in Wales, the book remains one of the standard works on the subject and is increasingly difficult to obtain in its original first edition form.
