Fair in fair dust jacket.
1969 Cambridge University Press Library Edition hardback in the original pale blue dust jacket.
This is a former London Borough of Harrow Public Libraries copy and retains substantial evidence of its institutional history. Library ownership stamps are present on the page edges and internally, together with classification/accession markings and a later withdrawn/disposal stamp dated 3 May 2008.
There is evidence of removed library labels and fittings to the endpapers and pastedowns, including adhesive residue, staining and surface loss. The dust jacket is heavily worn, with rubbing, creasing, small tears, edge losses and old label/tape residue, particularly around the spine and lower portion. It has evidently spent at least part of its life under protective library covering.
The boards beneath appear substantially sound and the large text block remains intact. Pages show general age toning and signs of previous institutional use but appear readable and complete.
A sound reading/reference copy rather than a collector’s copy. The ex-library status and all associated markings should be regarded as integral to the condition. Please examine the photographs carefully for the fullest indication of condition.

Originally published in 1906 and reissued by Cambridge University Press in 1969 as part of its Library Editions programme, this is Volume IV of the monumental Cambridge Modern History, the ambitious multi-volume history conceived and planned by Lord Acton.
Entitled The Thirty Years’ War, this substantial volume provides a detailed scholarly history of European political, military and religious affairs during the first half of the seventeenth century. Contributions examine the origins and development of the Thirty Years’ War, the political and religious divisions of the Holy Roman Empire, the intervention of Denmark and Sweden, the campaigns of Gustavus Adolphus and Wallenstein, Richelieu and French policy, and the wider European consequences of the conflict.
The scope extends beyond the German theatre. Chapters also examine Sweden and Poland, the constitutional struggle in England, the Long Parliament and the English Civil War, placing these developments within the broader European political environment of the period.
Among the contributors are leading historians of the original Cambridge Modern History, including A. W. Ward, G. W. Prothero, Stanley Leathes, Horatio F. Brown and W. F. Reddaway. The volume remains a substantial historiographical reference work for students and researchers interested in the Thirty Years’ War, Gustavus Adolphus, Wallenstein, seventeenth-century European diplomacy and the origins of the English Civil War. The original Volume IV is specifically devoted to The Thirty Years’ War.
This copy is the 1969 Cambridge University Press Library Edition, described by the publisher as a reissue of an out-of-print standard work reproducing the original text of the latest published edition with only minor corrections where necessary.
Please note: this is an ex-public-library copy and bears extensive library markings and evidence of previous institutional use.
