A scholarly reprint of the important first-hand English Civil War account by Royalist observer Richard Symonds, whose diary records the marches and experiences of the King’s army during the campaigns of 1644 and after. Symonds accompanied the Royalist forces through some of the pivotal operations of the war, including the campaign culminating in the Battle of Naseby.

Originally valued for its detailed observations of military life, local society, heraldry and antiquarian interests encountered during the campaign, the diary provides an unusually personal and literate Royalist perspective on the conflict. This Camden Classic Reprints edition includes the original editorial work of C. E. Long together with an extensive supplementary introduction by noted Civil War historian Ian Roy, placing the diary within the wider historiography of the conflict.

An important primary source for students and collectors of English Civil War history, Royalist studies and seventeenth-century military campaigns.
