Condition
Good condition overall for a complete set of this age. Both volumes retain their original burgundy cloth bindings with gilt spine titles and gilt Scottish History Society emblems to the front boards. The cloth shows general rubbing, scuffing and handling wear, with fading to the spines and bumping, wear and some fraying at the corners and spine ends. Page edges are toned and somewhat marked.
There is extensive adhesive residue, surface lifting and scarring to several pastedowns and endpapers where labels or bookplates have been removed; this is the principal condition issue. A small previous notation is also present. The bindings remain sound and the pages are generally clean, with expected age toning and occasional spotting or foxing. Both portrait frontispieces are present. Please refer to the photographs for condition.

A complete first-edition set of this important two-volume collection of primary-source material concerning the Scottish Covenanter army during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. Covering the years 1643–1647, the work documents the organisation, administration and operations of the army raised under the Solemn League and Covenant, including correspondence, orders, accounts and other contemporary papers.
Edited and introduced by the distinguished historian Charles Sanford Terry, the volumes provide valuable evidence concerning military organisation, finance, supply, recruitment and campaigning during the English Civil War. Published in 1917 as volumes XVI and XVII of the Second Series of the Scottish History Society. Both volumes retain their portrait frontispieces.
