A finely produced limited-edition facsimile of John Cruso's rare 1632 cavalry manual, one of the most important English military training works of the early seventeenth century. Originally published during the period immediately preceding the English Civil War, the work provides detailed instructions for the organisation, equipment, drill and battlefield employment of cavalry forces.

Cruso, a military theorist influenced by contemporary Dutch military practice, compiled a comprehensive guide covering mounted manoeuvres, weapons handling, troop formations and cavalry discipline. The manual offers valuable insight into the methods and doctrines that shaped British cavalry operations during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms and the wider military developments of seventeenth-century Europe.

This handsome Roundwood Press edition faithfully reproduces the original text and illustrations and includes scholarly introductory material placing the work in its historical context. Issued in a strictly limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies, this example being number 832, it is an increasingly scarce reference work for students and collectors of English Civil War military history.
