Rita Barnard
Rita Barnard is Professor Emerita of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of The Great Depression and the Culture of Abundance (1995) and Apartheid and Beyond: South African Writers and the Politics of Place (2007). Her editorial work includes The Cambridge Companion to Nelson Mandela (2014), Trump, Zuma, and the Grounds of US-South African Comparison, a special issue of Safundi (2020) and, with Andrew van der Vlies, South African Writing in Transition (2019). Her most recent essay is “On Revolution, Freedom, and the Temporalities of Betrayal” in Comparative Literature Studies.
