Mark A. Reid
Born to naval parents in Portsmouth, England in 1955, Mark Reid has lived in Canada for most of his life. The gift of an ancestor’s medal on his tenth birthday sparked a life-long interest in medals, and a 25-year career at the Canadian War Museum has allowed him to make a living while indulging his love for military history. While attending university, he enlisted as a Guardsman in his local Militia regiment, the Governor General’s Foot Guards, and retired 17 years later as a Captain. This ‘Saturday night soldiering’ has given him a real appreciation of those who have earned medals.
He still lives in Ottawa, his home for over 30 years, enjoying membership in the Orders and Medals Research Society, and continuing to collect medals and to produce articles.
