Malcolm Wanklyn

Professor Wanklyn studied the English Civil War at the University of Manchester. He then joined the staff of what later became the University of Wolverhampton where he completed his doctorate on allegiance in Cheshire and Shropshire in 1642 and taught courses on Early Modern England and Regional History. He also served for ten years as head of History, laid the foundations for the flourishing War Studies department, and supervised the widely used Port Book database of trade on the River Severn 1576-1765. On retiring in 2002 he returned to his first love, and since then has written six books on the British Wars, most notably Decisive Battles of English Civil War (2006), Reconstructing the New Model Army (2015, 2016) and Parliament’s Generals (2019), and several articles in leading historical journals.
