George H Cassar
Dr. Cassar was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and received his BA (!962) and MA (1963) from the University of New Brunswick (1963) and PhD from McGill University (1968). While working on his doctoral thesis, he moved to the US in 1966 to accept an instructor’s position at Northern Michigan University and two years later joined the faculty at Eastern Michigan University where he taught a variety of courses, including military history, until he retired in 2018. A leading expert on the First World War, his many works include Lloyd George at War, 1916-1918; Trial By Gas: The British Army at the Second Battle of Ypres; Reluctant Partner: The Complete Story of the French Participation in the Dardanelles Campaign of 1915. He is currently working on Kitchener’s influence in shaping the modern Middle East.
