Edward Pereira was born in August 1938. Educated at Downside near Radstock, Somerset, he was commissioned in 1957, after which active service in Germany; with the Guards Training Battalion at Pirbright, Surrey and with 2nd Coldstream Guards in Kenya and Zanzibar followed. It was during the African deployment that he travelled to Salisbury in Rhodesia and climbed Mt Kilimanjaro amongst other memorable excursions. On return to Great Britain in 1962, Edward's company was assigned to 1st Coldstream Guards as part of a nine-month deployment to British Guyana. Having left the army in 1964, he was employed as an IBM and Rank Xerox executive prior to retirement in 1994.
