David Baker

Born to an RAF family in England toward the end of the Second World War, the author has had a professional career within aerospace, working with NASA, the US Air Force and aviation manufacturers before becoming a professional aerospace historian and writer. Elected to the International Academy of Astronautics, David has also received: the Rolls-Royce Award for the Best Propulsion Submission, RAeS Aerospace Journalist of the Year Awards 1998; the Arthur C Clarke Award (2005); and the American Astronautical Society’s Frederick I Ordway Award (2017) presented at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. During the 1980s, David was managing director if his aerospace consulting company with offices in London and Princeton, New Jersey. He has been editor of Horizons, the house magazine of the former Smith’s Industries, two Jane’s yearbooks, Aviation News and SpaceFlight magazine. Apart from aerospace, David is interested in geopolitics, the history of twentieth century warfare, film and classical music, when he is not engaging with the natural world with his wife Ann.
