Wars in Georgia Volume 2

Wars in Georgia Volume 2: Russo-Georgian War, 2008 examines the causes, course and consequences of the brief but significant conflict between Russia and Georgia in August 2008. It positions the war within the broader instability that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union and considers how unresolved disputes over South Ossetia and Abkhazia escalated into direct military confrontation.

Wars in Georgia Volume 2 offers a comprehensive analysis of the principal engagements and the military operations undertaken by both Russian and Georgian forces. Particular attention is given to the use of aircraft, artillery and armoured vehicles, as well as to the effectiveness of Georgian anti-aircraft missile systems, which inflicted some of the most serious losses on the Russian Air Force.

Drawing on new research and previously unpublished material, the book assesses the conflict as a key precursor to Russia’s later military interventions. Illustrated with photographs, colour profiles and maps, it will appeal to readers interested in post-Soviet conflicts, the Caucasus and modern land and air warfare.
