In February 2022 Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, gambling on a swift capture and occupation of Kyiv. One crucial element of this plan was a rapid advance along the E95 highway that passed through Chernihiv to the north of Ukraine’s capital city. Volume 11 of the War in Ukraine series, The Battle of Chernihiv, February–March 2022 reconstructs and analyses for the first time the course of events and the reasons for the defeat of the Russian army in this crucial early battle.

The author was present in Chernihiv during the events described and collected hundreds of interviews with military and civic personnel who took a direct part in the battles. The Battle of Chernihiv will be of interest to enthusiasts of military history and military professionals alike.

Many photographs from the author's archive are shown for the first time in this volume, along with specially commissioned maps and the @War series’ signature colour artworks.

“…well written and heavily illustrated…” ModelingMadness.com

“…well documented with a good combination of all aspects; units, maps, vehicles, stories, and battles.” AMPS

“The author did a splendid job of including statements from Ukrainians involved in the fighting and several of the color photographs are his taken during and after the fighting.” IPMS/USA

“… well-illustrated with maps, photographs, and depictions of aircraft, armor, and soldiers, and include orders of battle. Readers will gain an understanding of how the war unfolded in the Spring of 2022.” The Journal of the Air Force Historical Foundation

“…a fine addition to this series by concentrating on one battle that was indicative of the early 2022 Russian attack.” Historical Miniatures Gaming Society
