The Spanish Civil War Volume 1

This first volume of The Spanish Civil War traces the fractured origins of the war, analysing events from 1898 to 1936, and then studies the Nationalist forces’ rebellion against the Republican government across Spain, the government’s response and the desperate early months of a nation tearing itself apart, laying the groundwork for the tragedy that followed. For the first time in English, all the units of the Spanish army and air forces that rebelled or remained loyal will be detailed, with a dozen tables covering these topics.

Volume 2 will deal with the War of Columns and the rise of Franco; Volume 3 will cover the battles for Madrid; Volume 4 will examine the conquest of the North; and Volume 5 will look at the offensive in Levant, the Battle of the Ebro, and the end of the war.
