After two protracted years of fighting that wore down the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN), the North Vietnamese decided to launch their final offensives in January 1975. The president of South Vietnam, Nguyen Van Thieu, decided upon a wide range of strategic withdrawals to consolidate his forces that saw the northern half of the country abandoned to the enemy. The scheme turned into a disaster, and by March 1975 the whole North Vietnamese regular battle corps, some 550,000 troops and 700 tanks, was massed at the gates of South Vietnam’s capital and subsequent events led to some of the fiercest fighting of the Vietnam War.

Volume 4 of Target Saigon examines the final campaigns of the conflict in Vietnam, in which the Communist forces engaged in a highly mechanized war of manoeuvre. Despite being heavily outnumbered, many of the ARVN’s units put up a fierce resistance, inflicting heavy casualties upon the advancing Northern forces, in a series of battles that were far from the rout often described.

Target Saigon Volume 4 is illustrated with a number of maps, 130 photographs and over 30 original colour artworks illustrating the men, vehicles and aircraft of this campaign.

"Besides being very informative, this volume is well supported by many maps, illustrations, and photographs." The VVA Veteran

"I highly recommend this book covering one of the final phases of our Viet Nam war. It is an excellent and important read and, in my opinion, add a significant amount of information and insight the next to the final combat operations of the Vietnam war. Mr. Gandolini’s book is very graphic in his photo images lays out his story in an easily followed and orderly manner." IPMS/USA

"This is an interesting read, which adds some interesting details of these final stages of the Vietnam War, and does include a final chapter devoted to an assessment and then the Aftermath, what happened once the North was successful in reuniting the two halves of the country." Robin Buckland, Military Model Scene

"Grandolini paints a clear and detailed picture of the higher strategy behind the war's final battles from the standpoints of commanders on both sides, which is fascinating. Maps and many rarely seen images of Vietnamese troops illustrate the engaging and interesting narrative." Vietnam Magazine

"...Thoroughly recommended to anyone with an interest in the Vietnam War and, in particular, the activities of the South Vietnamese Air Force during its last year of existence." Asian Air Arms Newsletter 35

"Target Saigon 1973-75 Volume 4, closes author Albert Grandolini’s revealing series on the gradual capture of the South Vietnamese capital and its surrounds....There’s myriad inspiration for builds/dioramas here, whether your focus is on ground or air assets. If you already have the first three instalments on the subject you’ll already appreciate their value and will want to complete the set, however, if you’re a modeller embarking on Vietnam War builds for the first time, it’s highly recommended that you consider obtaining the Saigon books, as well as Helion & Company’s many other softback works on this long-running conflict." KeyModelWorld.com

"Helion, the publisher of the Target Saigon series, always produces quality products. These volumes are certainly two of them." The Journal of the Air Force Historical Foundation
