Bamboo Mountain

In the year of Gabo (1894), the “Land of the Morning Calm,” was swept by the storm of the Donghak Uprising, the largest peasant rebellion in Korean history. Initially a localised revolt against excesses of the government and class system, the Donghak movement acted as a catalyst for the First Sino-Japanese War, and superseded its localised origins and spiralled into a nationwide resistance movement against Japanese invasion.
