The Atlas of Battles and Campaigns of the American Revolution provides a comprehensive visual summary of the campaigns, major battles and minor skirmishes of the war. The atlas includes over 120 maps created using maps from the Revolution, including the large collection from the US Library of Congress and enhanced with more accurate topographic mapping from the 1880s. The maps also show troop dispositions and movements taken from a wide range of written sources to provide the most accurate representation of the battles and campaigns. The Atlas will be a valuable resource for anyone with an interest in the American Revolution, including wargamers, reenactors, and students of the conflict.
Beginning with the opening skirmishes at Lexington and Concord the Atlas follows the course of the war including the major engagements at Brooklyn, Trenton, Brandywine, Saratoga, Monmouth, Savannah, Guilford Courthous,e and Yorktown. The Atlas also includes a large collection of minor actions, including Harlem Heights, White Plains, Short Hills, Barren Hill, Stony Point, Hobkirk’s Hill and Green Springs. The Atlas addresses critical naval battles as well as key engagements in the West Indies, Gibraltar, and India.
Reviews of hardback edition:
"Military atlases are a popular medium for providing a good solid foundation that readers can use to broaden their understanding when they are done well. This one is an absolute stunner, and was clearly a labour of love for both authors. They should both be incredibly pleased with the end result, and this review comes with with my admiration and congratulations for a job very well done." Colin Ashon, carryingsonupthedale.com
"'Sumptuous' is the best way to describe this volume: a lavishly-illustrated set of around 120 maps of actions, usually in the form of a page of text plus a full-colour map........This is a handsome and probably essential addition to the library of any AWI wargamer." Chris Jarvis, Miniature Wargames magazine, Issue 489, Jan 24
"A very useful single-volume military historical atlas of the American Revolutionary War, which offers
wargamers not only clear maps of the major battles, but also details of many other, less-familiar engagements and raids that have the potential to become scenarios that could be recreated as tabletop battles or mini-campaigns." Arthur Harman, Miniature Wargames Magazine, November 2026 (review of the Pbk edition)
"This magnificent work has nearly one hundred and twenty very successful maps (and their explanatory text), on all the campaigns and combats (including sieges and naval battles) linked to the American Revolution. You will find chapters not only on the clashes in North America, but also on the operations in the Antilles, Gibraltar or the Indies (with the exploits of Suffren)....Highly recommended purchase!" VaeVictus Magazine No 174, 2024 (translated from French)
"...This is a serious book with an excellent collection of coloured maps of all the major and many of the smaller battles of the American War of Independence or Revolution as the Americans seem to prefer....Highly Recommended." Glorious Little Soldiers Blog
"What a marvelous examination of the American Revolution by wargamers who appreciate two things often lacking in military history books: good maps and OOBs with numbers … If only all military history books had this level of cartographic genius and OOB detail, I'd be a happy camper. If you have any interest in the American Revolution, here's the book for wargamers. Fantastic. Well done." Historical Miniatures Gaming Society
“…a terrific book that works as a stand-alone volume that is fun to peruse or a companion to a deep dive of a specific campaign.” ARGunners.com
