Airborne to Arnhem – Volumes 1–3 (Complete Set)

Exclusive Bundle Deal: 30% Off

This three-volume set presents an extensive collection of first-hand accounts from the Battle of Arnhem during Operation MARKET GARDEN (17–26 September 1944). Drawing on more than forty years of research, the series brings together over 150 personal reminiscences from veterans of the British 1st Airborne Division, alongside accounts from RAF aircrew and XXX Corps personnel.

The books focus on the British airborne assault to seize the north end of the Arnhem bridge, the intense fighting around the Oosterbeek perimeter, and the dramatic evacuation of the remaining troops across the Neder Rijn after nine days of combat.

Volume 1 concentrates on the experiences of the 1st Parachute Brigade, including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Parachute Battalions, together with supporting formations such as the 1st Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers, 1st Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, 1st Airlanding Light Regiment Royal Artillery, and 16th Parachute Field Ambulance. It also includes accounts from divisional support units and members of the Glider Pilot Regiment.

Volume 2 examines the role of the 1st Airlanding Brigade, including the 2nd Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, 1st Battalion Border Regiment, and 7th (Galloway) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, along with further accounts from the Glider Pilots who carried them into battle. The volume also introduces the actions of the 4th Parachute Brigade, including the 10th and 11th Parachute Battalions, and includes a rare perspective from a US Army Air Corps pilot involved in the operation.

Volume 3 concludes the series with accounts from the remainder of the 4th Parachute Brigade, including the 156th Parachute Battalion and 4th Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers. It also covers the work of airborne supply units, the artillery support provided by both 1st Airborne Division and XXX Corps, and the vital role of the Royal Air Force, including 38 and 46 Groups. The volume concludes with detailed recollections of the evacuation of the surviving airborne troops across the Neder Rijn.

Each volume includes substantial contextual introductions, along with a wealth of wartime and post-war photographs—many in colour—and detailed maps illustrating unit positions and the progress of the battle.

Together, the three volumes form one of the most comprehensive collections of first-hand testimony from the Battle of Arnhem.
