At the Forward Edge of Battle: The Two-Volume Bundle

Save 40% on both volumes of Syed Ali Hamid’s At the Forward Edge of Battle.

Explore the origins, development and combat history of the Pakistan Armoured Corps with this illustrated two-volume collection. From the mechanisation of British Indian Army cavalry regiments in the late 1930s to the emergence of a modern armoured force, these books trace a history shaped by war, independence and organisational change.

Drawing on decades of the author’s first-hand experience, extensive research and official documentation, the collection examines how the corps was built, expanded and equipped. Its story encompasses Second World War service, the post-independence period and conflicts with India, exploring how operational experience influenced its development.

Alongside combat operations, the books investigate the culture, traditions, organisation and doctrine of the corps. They introduce the personalities, units and events that shaped its identity, showing how inherited cavalry traditions became part of Pakistan’s national army. Coverage of equipment and bases adds further detail to this account of military transformation.

Historical photographs, colour vehicle profiles, maps and tables support the narrative, offering readers a visual reference to accompany the organisational and operational history. Together, the volumes provide a rewarding collection for readers interested in armoured warfare, South Asian military history and the legacy of the British Indian Army, as well as military modellers seeking reference material.
