Inter War Years

Inter War Years

In the context of twentieth century history, the interwar period occurred between the end of the First World War in November 1918 and the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. Characterised by post-war economic boom followed by world-wide depression and the totalitarian regimes of Soviet Russia, Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, major conflicts during the succeeding two decades before the German invasion of Poland were the Polish-Soviet War (1919-21), Greco-Turkish War (1919-22), Italian Invasion of Abyssinia (1935-36), Spanish Civil War (1936-39) and the Japanese Invasion of China (1937). Important military developments at this time included advances in armour and aircraft design and tactics subsequently employed during Blitzkrieg operations of the next war.
