David C J Howell

David C.J. Howell was born at Earlham Hall in 1946, in what is now part of the University of East Anglia. His final school was King Edward VI Stafford, after which he joined the Staffordshire constabulary in 1965.  In a career lasting 30 years in uniform, he retired in 1995, but continued in a support staff role until 2011. He has written extensively about India in various journals and edited War without Pity in The South Indian Peninsula 1798-1813: The Letter Book of Lieutenant Colonel Valentine Blacker. He now lives in Leicester.
