Arran Johnston
Born in Derbyshire, Arran Johnston obtained his doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland and now lives in Dunbar. He is a trustee of the Battle of Prestonpans (1745) Heritage Trust and has been leading research and interpretation activities at the battlefield since 2006. In 2015 he established the Scottish Battlefields Trust to campaign for greater protection and understanding of fields of conflict in Scotland. He has written extensively on the ’45 as well as earlier periods of Scottish military history: books for Helion include On Gladsmuir Shall the Battle Be!: The Battle of Prestonpans and Essential Agony: The Battle Of Dunbar 1650 as well as a chapter on Edinburgh forces in his co-editor’s volume Rebellious Scots to Crush.
